Chamarajanagara
: It is also District centre and also the Taluk centre. It is located
at Southern end of the Karnataka State Bordering Tamil Nadu state. To
the West is Gundlupete and Nanjangud Taluk, to the north is T.
Narasipura, to the east Kollegal and Yelandur Taluk. The Taluk
comprises of 5 Hobli's namely Kasaba, Hardanahalli, Harave,
Santhemarhalli and Chandakavadi.
A brief
history :Chamarajanagar is 61 Kms away from Mysore,
located in a plain land surrounded by small hillocks.The
Chamarajanagar
was also known as ARIKUTARA or ARIKOOTARA and also as Wodeyanooru.
The
9 th Chamaraja Wodeyar was born in Chamarajanagar in year 1774. At
the
place of his birth, in his rememberance JANANA MANTAP has been built
and it has been declared as Heritage Structure by the Govt. Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar son of Chamaraja Wodeyar, remodelled the town in
the year 1826 he built the Chamarajeshwara Temple.Other temples
located inside Chamarajanagara town are Bhujangeshwara,veerabhadrana
Gudi,Kadu
Narayana Swamy, Choudeshwari, Kannikaparameshwari etc.
