A brief history :Chamarajanagar is 61 Kms away from Mysore, located in a plain land surrounded by small hillocks.The Chamarajanagar was also known as ARIKUTARA or ARIKOOTARA and also as Wodeyanooru. The 9 th Chamaraja Wodeyar was born in Chamarajanagar in year 1774. At the place of his birth, in his rememberance JANANA MANTAP has been built and it has been declared as Heritage Structure by the Govt. Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar son of Chamaraja Wodeyar, remodelled the town in the year 1826 he built the Chamarajeshwara Temple.Other temples located inside Chamarajanagara town are Bhujangeshwara,veerabhadrana Gudi,Kadu Narayana Swamy, Choudeshwari, Kannikaparameshwari etc. In the year 1826 Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar built Chamarajeshwara temple. According to Hindu calander in Ashada Masam,the cart festival of presiding deity of the temple is held with much fun fair, where newly married couple come and offer prayers to the deity for fullfillment of their objectives.
To the East of the city around 5 Kms from centre of the city, the Haralukote Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple is situated ." Hanuma Chintana " and "Sri Hanuma Suprabhata" these two prose articles depict the historical importance of the place.

Malai Mahadeshwara hills: ಮಲೆ ಮಹದೇಶ್ವರ ಬೆಟ್ಟ 120 km away from city. Also Known as MM hills. MM Hills is one of the holy place for followers of lord Shiva. Lakhs of pilgrims visit Malai Mahadeshwara Hills from different parts of Karnataka and aslo from Tamilnadu state. Sri Mahadeshwara Swamy came here to perform penance and moved using a tiger as his vehicle and performed number of miracles around the hills to save the people and saints living here. Historical evidences suggest that Sri Mahadeshwara must have lived during the 15th century. The main festival of the temple is Maha Shivratri. During Deepavali festival a grand celebration can be seen in Malai Mahadeshwara Hills

Hogenekal Falls:165 km away from city. Hogenakkal is situated at the borders of Karnataka The river Kaveri which enters in Tamil Nadu as a big river flows here as natural falls. The word Hogenakkal is made of two words, Hoge and Kal. Hoge in Kannada means smoke and Kal means rocks. Hence, the Hogenakkal means smoky rocks. The river when falls on the rocks below, then the gushing force of the water looks like as if smoke is coming from the rocks so this place is as Hogenakkal Boating in Hogenakkal is allowed during the dry-season.

Shivan Samudra : 75 km away from city. This place, also called as Shimsa The Shivanasamudra Waterfalls, literally meaning Shiva's Sea. It is here that the Cauvery River branches off into two different streams, each of them cascading down the 200 ft fall. The western stream is known as Gaganachukki, while the eastern stream is known as Bharachukki. Shivanasamudra is home to the first Hydro-electric Power station in Asia, which was set up in the year 1902. This is one of the oldest generating station in India.

Gagana Chukki & Bara Chukki Water falls: 65 km away from city. Cauvery splits into two, falls into a valley in two separate places called Gaganachukki and Bharachukki and re-unites downstream. A good lot of water falls down from both the waterfalls. Gaganachukki especially is a steep fall where water gushes down with great velocity. The sight of these two falls is enchanting and the best time to visit them is during the monsoon.

Biligiri Rangana hills: 45 km away from city. Called as B R Hills. The hills are famous for the temple of Lord Ranganatha or Lord Venkatesha which is situated on the highest peak of the hill range. The area is called Biligiriranga Swamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary or simply BRT Wildlife.

K. Gudi: 40 km away from city. K. Gudi (Kyathadevara Gudi) located in the Biligiri Rangana hills. It is the heaven place for those who love the forest. This is a place of breathtaking scenic beauty. Jungle lodges available for accommodation. Open Jeep Safari is available in the K. Gudi. In open Jeep Safari you can find many animals like Elephant, Spotted Dear, Sambar, Wild boar etc.
